Our solution was to include a provision in all PBC plans that would allow us to obtain funds for claims that would have been eligible if they had not been part of an accident at work. WorkSafe benefits are available to most B.C. workers who have suffered workplace injuries or illnesses. WorkSafe is a provincial authority that oversees a problem-free workplace insurance plan, with a statutory mandate: while you wait for a new decision, we will advance payment for your rights, but we would need it to sign a new refund contract for any additional eligible expenses that we can advance. These advanced credits must be refunded for the full amount requested, regardless of the amount and terms of a transaction. We recognize that it can take a long time to settle these rights. We don`t want your recovery delayed because you`re waiting for WorkSafe BC to pay. Part of this provision of the advance contract is the repayment agreement. In order for us to advance the funds for eligible expenses, we must have a refund agreement concluded and signed.

We`re here to help. Claims related to work illness or injury are excluded from your plan. In the future, if you still have symptoms of your related injuries, you will need to ask to reopen your WorkSafe application. All Pacific Blue Cross plans contain an exclusion that prohibits us from paying claims related to work-related illnesses or injuries.
Since benefits related to these injuries or illnesses are excluded from your PBC plan, you must assert the right to workSafe to pay for your employment-related expenses for extended health care and lost wages.
